Employee Ownership and Team Spirit

The philosophical basis – the culture – of IDC is different from that of most companies. A chief legacy of IDC's founders is the concept of employee ownership of the company, a progressive approach to business, where every dollar of stock is held by active working associates. At IDC all employees can have an ownership stake in their company. All staff are able to buy and sell shares in a stock market limited only to the company's employee owners. Because there are no external stockholders, the employees/owners of IDC retain internal control of the company. The company founders embraced this creative philosophy of self-management, sharing responsibility and ownership that employees would actually live, day in and day out. Following Thomas Jefferson's advice – "He governs best who governs least" – IDC adopted the philosophy of hiring good people and letting them do their jobs, unfettered by micro-management, to the best of their ability.

The IDC work environment is informal, a corporate family atmosphere that endorses entrepreneurship and an eagerness to experiment. Employees review each other's performance; management hierarchy varies from one project to the next, as each project team is formed according to the specific needs of a project; and supervisory roles are alternated based on staffing needs. This approach succeeds because it involves people who are both capable of self-management and managing others in ever-changing roles. Stock is awarded to employees for exceptional job performance. Additionally, IDC actively fosters employees' growth and has become a significant world leader in its industry because of respect for its employees. There are many cases of IDC employees who’ve advanced their technological skills through company expense. IDC is one of the best places in the world that architects and engineers can build a strong resume by helping IDC build its resume.
