Analytical activities aimed at supporting capital investment planning
and decision-making for manufacturing, distribution and logistics
operations, and optimizing the associated return on investment.
IDC's facility planning services include:

Business Planning - Analysis of business objectives,
definition of operations alternatives, quantitative and qualitative
analysis of alternatives including calculations for return
on investments.
|
|
|
Strategic Planning - Development of a company-wide
integrated plan for growth or consolidation of multi-campus
operating capacity, and identification of the optimum use
of capital and resources to reach a planned objective.
|
|
|
Feasibility Studies - Definition of concepts and alternatives
for a capital project or series of projects. This typically
includes conceptual designs, order of magnitude capital cost
estimates, and recommendations for a path forward.
|
|
|
Programming/Project Definition - Development of project
scope through an interactive interview process with the client
organization. Typically includes a statement of goals; functional
requirements for any facility and operating system changes
or additions, including a list of rooms and areas, their intended
use and conditions required; preliminary list of systems and
equipment; and design criteria for each area and system.
|
|
|
Siting - Definition of site requirements, and location
and analysis of alternative sites. Analysis is performed for
site physical conditions, utilities, environmental suitability,
access, impact to the community and potential operating cost
factors such as labor, raw materials, and supporting infrastructure.
|
|
|
Master Planning - Development of a long-term strategic
plan for future growth and use of one or more facilities.
A master plan should be considered for greenfield projects
as well as renovations or expansions to existing facilities
or campuses. Master plans include site plot plans and general
arrangements showing existing features and uses, as well as
reserved locations for future features and uses.

|
Environmental Studies - Environmental assessments
and impact statements, monitoring and sampling studies, and
special studies for construction permits, planning, land development,
and operating permits. Operational permit applications for
new or existing facilities. Specialized talent to address
environmental issues such as air, water, solid waste, and
noise.

|
|
Conceptual Estimating and Scheduling - Development
of rough order of magnitude estimates of construction and
operating costs, as well as schedules for engineering, permitting,
construction, and startup.
|
|
|
Permitting - Determination of permit requirements,
development of permit schedules, generation of permit applications,
and coordination with agencies involved to facilitate permit
issuance. Active participation and presentations to planning
or zoning boards. Variance management.
|
|
|
Regulatory Assistance - Determination of regulatory
requirements, incorporation of these requirements into the
design, and arrangement of/participation in formal reviews
with regulatory agencies and inspectors.
|
|
|
Scale-Up Planning - Facilitation of the transition
of new technologies and products from research and development
through development of pilot scale operations, manufacturing
scale-up, production line and infrastructure planning to full-scale
commercial production.
|
|
|
Consulting - Expertise in engineering and troubleshooting
for a wide range of food process, packaging and automation
systems; environmental issues; and technical issues; as well
as operations management.
