Planning

Analytical activities aimed at supporting capital investment planning and decision-making for manufacturing, distribution and logistics operations, and optimizing the associated return on investment. IDC's facility planning services include:

Business Planning - Analysis of business objectives, definition of operations alternatives, quantitative and qualitative analysis of alternatives including calculations for return on investments.

Strategic Planning - Development of a company-wide integrated plan for growth or consolidation of multi-campus operating capacity, and identification of the optimum use of capital and resources to reach a planned objective.

Feasibility Studies - Definition of concepts and alternatives for a capital project or series of projects. This typically includes conceptual designs, order of magnitude capital cost estimates, and recommendations for a path forward.

Programming/Project Definition - Development of project scope through an interactive interview process with the client organization. Typically includes a statement of goals; functional requirements for any facility and operating system changes or additions, including a list of rooms and areas, their intended use and conditions required; preliminary list of systems and equipment; and design criteria for each area and system.

Siting - Definition of site requirements, and location and analysis of alternative sites. Analysis is performed for site physical conditions, utilities, environmental suitability, access, impact to the community and potential operating cost factors such as labor, raw materials, and supporting infrastructure.

Master Planning - Development of a long-term strategic plan for future growth and use of one or more facilities. A master plan should be considered for greenfield projects as well as renovations or expansions to existing facilities or campuses. Master plans include site plot plans and general arrangements showing existing features and uses, as well as reserved locations for future features and uses.

Environmental Studies - Environmental assessments and impact statements, monitoring and sampling studies, and special studies for construction permits, planning, land development, and operating permits. Operational permit applications for new or existing facilities. Specialized talent to address environmental issues such as air, water, solid waste, and noise.

Conceptual Estimating and Scheduling - Development of rough order of magnitude estimates of construction and operating costs, as well as schedules for engineering, permitting, construction, and startup.

Permitting - Determination of permit requirements, development of permit schedules, generation of permit applications, and coordination with agencies involved to facilitate permit issuance. Active participation and presentations to planning or zoning boards. Variance management.

Regulatory Assistance - Determination of regulatory requirements, incorporation of these requirements into the design, and arrangement of/participation in formal reviews with regulatory agencies and inspectors.

Scale-Up Planning - Facilitation of the transition of new technologies and products from research and development through development of pilot scale operations, manufacturing scale-up, production line and infrastructure planning to full-scale commercial production.

Consulting - Expertise in engineering and troubleshooting for a wide range of food process, packaging and automation systems; environmental issues; and technical issues; as well as operations management.
