Beijing Office Gears Up For Business in China

Our newest office in China has opened in Beijing, China, under the name "CH2M-IDC China." (www.ch2m-idc.com.cn) The office is the latest addition to a joint venture between CH2M-IDC and Ishimoto in the Asia-Pacific region. In the last 10 years we've established offices in Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and China. The Beijing office, along with our offices in Tianjin and Shanghai, will enable CH2M-IDC China to continue leadership in:

  • Facilities service work with General Electric Aircraft Engines.

  • Master planning for Shanghai's Songjiang Science and Technology Park.

  • Design work for the world's largest chip assembly/test foundry.

  • Design work for three other leading integrated circuit manufacturers.

  • Environmental problem-solving for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The Beijing office was formerly directed by Sarah Liao, now China's Secretary for Environment, Transport and Works for the Hong Kong region. The office is co-directed by Nicholas Sonntag and Bill Howard. Nicholas is former President of CH2M-IDC Canada and an expert in sustainable development. Bill has years of experience in managing personnel, offices, and projects for IDC.

CH2M-IDC China's Facility Services Group (FSG) has assisted General Electric (GE) Aircraft in becoming established in China. In fact, IDC was the only design/construction firm invited by General Electric to make a presentation at GE's recent supplier's conference in Shanghai. From this developing role, CH2M-IDC China looks forward to supplying many services to GE's Aircraft Engines division and GE's Industrial Systems and Controls group.

CH2M-IDC China has also performed well for other clients:

  • Master planning for the Songjiang Science and Technology Park, a 48-square mile area. This includes drainage, planting, irrigation, lighting, and signage.

  • Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design for Amkor Technology's plant in Shanghai. This is a 2,800-square-meter Class 10 cleanroom, part of the largest chip assembly/test foundry in the world.

  • Master planning facilities for three major integrated circuit manufacturers, including work in environmental, permitting, and infrastructure services.

  • Economic development and marketing consultant services to the owner of the technology park in which the three firms have built their plants.

The CH2M-IDC China office in Beijing reflects the belief that China offers many opportunities. Some estimate that the country will spend up to $84 billion in the next five years on environmental projects alone.

CH2M-IDC China sees a productive and prosperous future in China. Our expertise in design, construction, environmental, and infrastructure opportunities will enable us to be an active participant in the economic transformation that affects 20 percent of the world's population.
