Eircom
Dublin, Ireland
Datacentre / Web Hosting Facility
Eircom's new 4,000 square metre web hosting facility aims to provide
reliable telecommunications and power to its internet customers,
all within a strictly controlled air conditioned and humidified
environment. A high level of reliability has been designed into
the various systems. The accompanying plant building houses generators,
chillers, boilers and distribution equipment. Since noise is a factor,
silencers and attenuators have been provided.
The electrical and mechanical systems provide reliability and redundancy
by incorporating n+1 generator, UPS and chiller designs. Power is
distributed via a network of busbars running under the raised floor
in the rack rooms. In the case of a loss of power, the UPS systems
are capable of supporting the full facility critical load until
such time as the generators are brought on-line to assume the burden.
The generators have backup fuel to provide full load service to
the facility for three days. A system of chillers, air handlers
and close control units maintains temperature and humidity in the
rack area within strict parameters.
The telecommunications design provides main and diverse data routes
to the site for Eircom and other licensed operators. These data
lines are terminated on panels in a dedicated telecommunications
room. Distribution of the structured wiring system from the Telco
room to the rack area is via diverse fiber optic and CAT 6 cable
routes.
On completion of construction and commissioning, IDC was awarded
the contract to act as facility managers at this prestigious site.
In addition to normal maintenance programs, IDC also manages security,
utilities, cleaning, insurances, and similar related activities,
ensuring efficient and economical plant operation. Services provided
